faces

Visage. The curious beauty of the face. The eyes, the ears, the nose, the mouth, the hair, the complexion, the profile, the gaze. Symmetry vs. asymmetry. I’m a sucker for a pretty face. But I do love a face with character.
Faces are, generally, what attracts us to another person. The face is what lures us in or distracts us. The eyes are called the windows of the soul. The shape of the nose, the way the lips curl, the edge of the chin, the prominence of the cheek, the colour of the skin … all of these elements add up to what the beholder finds either pleasing or displeasing to the eye.
In Desmond Morris’s brilliant book on human behaviour called Manwatching, two virtually identical photos of a woman’s face are side by side. The caption asks which face you find yourself more attracted to. The text then goes on to say that a survey found that most people choose the face on the left. Why? The woman’s pupils are more dilated, larger, and apparently this “openness” unconsciously attracts a person staring into the face.
I remember at a ski resort waiting in a queue for the lifts, admiring two girls from behind my mask, both of whom looked very attractive, yet had large ski googles on. One of them took off her ski mask and revealed gorgeous almond eyes, the other then removed hers, and her appearance was radically different, nowhere near as pretty!
Funny how eyes can completely change a face, which is why police files can cover just the eyes in a black strip and ultimately disguise the person’s identity. And why is that with police mug shots people often look quite different than how they usually appear?
When we smile apparently we only use four muscles, yet when we frown we use sixteen. So of course, we are encouraged to smile more, because, even if some of us do look cute when we're angry, at the end of the day smiling is less exhausting. And, let's face it, a smile really can light up a room.
Curiously though most of my facial aesthetics for Style of Eye lie more in the deadpan expression, the ever-so-slight brood, or the subtle cum-hither gaze ...
My lover’s visage is gorgeousness personified. But of these particular faces, many of them enhanced by skilled photography, I do find my red-blooded maleness inexorably drawn to the exotic allure of all those high cheek-boned, full-lipped women; Tabatha Cash, Pania Rose, Gia Carangi, Natalie Imbruglia, Laura Gemser, Sophie Ellis Bexter, Andrea Corr.

Literally and aesthetically.
You certainly do have an eye for faces Raoul. Even if, they are, as you say;
...and I love that you have Aishwarya Rai there...
